What books/magazines are you reading? What films and television have you been seeing? What have you been listening to from your music collections? Bought anything interesting recently?
This is the thread to discuss all your media distractions!

This is the thread to discuss all your media distractions! No cinema for me this year, and not much telly beyond the return of the good Doctor - although I'm hoping to pick up the DVD edition of 'Casanova' before year's end. As to what's loaded in my player, I'm watching the three-DVD set on the Ashes 2005. Currently I'm reading 'Beloved Emma' by Flora Fraser and 'Owning Your Own Shadow' by Robert A Johnson, along with an audio book entitled '14 Qualities of Successful Musicians'. Music-wise I'm drowning myself in Ben Folds until I can afford the new Kate Bush. ;D I love media distractions.

Well there's the new Doctor Who series of course...
I recently got the box sets of 60's sci-fi anthology show The Outer Limits at a very reasonable £23.99. That's 49x50 minute episodes of black and white classics.
I recently finished The Hobbit. A friend gave it to me about Christmas time. I started it the day after and it's taken me this long to actually finish the thing. Not because I didn't like it, just because, well, that's how long it took.
Of course I then immediately read a whole other book from beginning to end in about three hours.
Of course.

Book-wise, I'm about a fourth of the way through 'The Historian' by Elizabeth Kostova, and finding it hard to put it down. In music, I'm listening to preview tracks from 'Victory for the Comic Muse' by Divine Comedy. Not much in the way of telly, beyond 'Doctor Who'.

The new Regina Spektor album Begin To Hope is commanding my attention at the moment. Along with The Decemberists Picaresque and The Cardigans Super Extra Gravity. I have discovered the wonders of youtube.com and have favourited many music videos including The Cardigans (again) and the vid for Don't Blame Your Daughter which is marvellous and the vid for Jo Jo's Jacket by Stephen Malkmus which is even marvellouser. In the cinema I recently witnessed Superman Returns which is worth seeing on the big screen but is lacking... something. Also Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest which was mostly a mess but had some good bits. Bookwise there's Rich Hall's Things Snowball. Mainly a collection of stuff he's written for papers and magazines I think. It includes one hilarious piece on Aberdeen in which badmouths the Granite City for a couple of pages before taking it all back in a long heartfelt apology, and explaining at the end that he meant Dundee. ;D And now the current series of Who is over I'm only really watching The Avengers on BBC Four. They recently started showing the black and white Emma Peel episodes which are all fab.
